Luisa Fernanda: a woman fired for using a slur that she didn't know.

So, yeah. A Mexican woman was fired for using a perfectly good Spanish word that, in *Cuba*, is an anti-gay slur.

The english equivalent would be, I think, an Englishman on a BBC talk show making a comment about "going out to pick up some fags" and Americans being offended - or Ford trying to sell the Pinto in Argentina without realising that, in addition to a type of horse, it's also Argentinian slang for "small penis".

Hmmm. Playing advocate. Part of her job description would be to know and bew on top of movements within the local cultural scene. She lives in Miami, which even I know is full of Cubans. Ergo she wasn't fired for using the word, she was fired for not knowing the word was ofensive when she should have.

Admittedly I'm in the "she shouldn't be fired even if she knew" camp, which thnks viewers/listeners can decide whether to continue watching and the station can decide after it has an affect one way or another, but still.

Corporates; trying so hard to be all things to all people, they kind of forget that people are simply people.

if a country allows a real gang to be named after a trout, i don't think that anyone can take them seriously in the first place.
