Jul. 10th, 2007 01:40 pmLuisa Fernanda: a woman fired for using a slur that she didn't know.
So, yeah. A Mexican woman was fired for using a perfectly good Spanish word that, in *Cuba*, is an anti-gay slur.
The english equivalent would be, I think, an Englishman on a BBC talk show making a comment about "going out to pick up some fags" and Americans being offended - or Ford trying to sell the Pinto in Argentina without realising that, in addition to a type of horse, it's also Argentinian slang for "small penis".

Date: 2007-07-10 10:01 pm (UTC)Admittedly I'm in the "she shouldn't be fired even if she knew" camp, which thnks viewers/listeners can decide whether to continue watching and the station can decide after it has an affect one way or another, but still.
Corporates; trying so hard to be all things to all people, they kind of forget that people are simply people.
