"We'll be doing some rain magic to bring the rain and wash it away."

She added: "I'm amazed they got permission to do something so ridiculous. It's an area of scientific interest."

There's a reason why I don't take pagans any more seriously than I take Christians, Scientologists, Mormons, or homeless people suffering from a similiar-but-personalised dementia.

Paganism: a religion based on having an overactive, but unoriginal, imagination.

Since when is rain in the UK hard to come by? I'm surprised it hasn't already happened, but you just know these idiots will claim credit.

There are some who claim credit for Hitler not invading the British Isles in WWII.

I shit you not.

I hadn't realised until just then: Homer looks like he's about to play ring-toss.

I agree with one of the commentors in there: "I can just hear Homer 'WOO-HOO'ing in my head!"

the person who made that Homer is my new god, and if the Pagan's succeed in their "rain magic" I'll have to declare a Jyhad on their asses. And as Vampire player, I'm an expert in the ways of Jyhad.

What should they worship?

I sense some awesome urban fantasy setting hiding behind that question, but don't have time to try to develop it...

Because for their rarity to the actual urban dweller, they obtain that much more value?

Addendum: In order to make a more compelling point, I'd like to add that yes, every religion (or even non-religion) has whackjob. Yes, there are whackjob atheists, whackjob Mormons, whackjob Christians, whackjob Islamists, whackjob Pagans, and, of course, whackjob Scientoligists. I personally do not see any offense to the Homer chalk, but then, I am not a whackjob. I even found one of the prior comments to your original entry about ring-toss to be hilarious. But I ask that you realize that a few whackjobs in the news does not condemn an entire group to the same mindset.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Statement #1: I Do Not Believe In Your Invisible Friend. And this will continue, as long as he continues to be your invisible friend and to be totally undetectable out here in objective reality.

Statement #2: While I know a fair number of otherwise sane Christians and otherwise sane Pagans and otherwise sane Linux enthusiasts and otherwise sane paranoid schizophrenics, when it comes to their irrationality, they're irrational. All of them. Even you. And I'm okay with that, but you don't get a magic get-out-of-mockery-free card for it, any more than the homeless guy talking about elves or the Randroid explaining how poor people WANT to be poor does.

If it helps any, I expect no get-out-of-mockery-free cards myself. In fact, when I'm being irrational, I prefer that people point it out and make their case - that way, when I'm not thinking straight, I can correct it, or argue my case and explain why it's not actually irrational.

I don't know. I've been quietly a bitter atheist for years (it's not particularly popular to be an atheist in the United States, let me tell ya) and probably even quietly mock people behind their backs, but to do it to their face? Just seems...well, it seems overly rude. You're not going to change their minds about it, and if it were not being done in a societal setting then fine, but to their face? Very... gauche.

I tend not to think of posts to my livejournal as being to anyone's "face" - and I feel totally justified in saying what you're responding to, in response to "Ah, shove it up your ass and die".

Don't take it as criticism of you; I wasn't going down that road. I'm just saying that I don't understand the Loud, Angry, Bitter Atheist thing. I totally get the Bitter Atheist thing though.

(I was angry and loud in college, though. I had a door half burned down in my dorm due to some of the anti-Christian slogans I put up there).

I just felt that in the end, I was pretty much just achieving nothing other than maintaining a finely honed sense of anger on the whole thing, and gave up the fight. Because the religious simply don't listen.
