It saddens me that I probably wouldn't have thought to look for the emergency exit either. Actually, even if I found it, I'd probably think "oh, I can't go through that - I'll set off an ALARM." *facepalm*

Actually, this story suggests to me that the building had no security system to speak of. Unless the alarm only went off if a door was opened, or something.

Im a reasonable person. I get locked in somewhere by mistake, im willing to try to make a brief effort to track down the owner, and give them a reasonable time to get me out. Say, 15 mins to track them down, another 15 mins to come get me, if im in no hurry. Same for the police. After that, I am LEAVING. They had better HOPE theres an emergency exit.

Yup. Fitness centers are just *full* of nice heavy things to smash glass with. Of course, if the doors aren't glass but steel-barred-sort of thing, that makes things more difficult..
