I am not sure about the scientific validity of this. Did they have a randomized control group? If not, it could simply be that the babies had a poorer vocabulary because they inherited the stupidity of their parents.

When my youngest daughter was little (the other three were from my wife's previous marriages), my wife and I tried to avoid using "baby talk," and talked to her normally. It worked. She started talking in sentences early, and she's always had a good vocabulary. The idea of subjecting a baby to a video to teach him/her to talk is ridiculous.
