The Pirate Bay have filed charges with Swedish police against Twentieth Century Fox, EMI, Universal, Paramount, and Sony, among others, after leaked email archives prove that all of these companies were bankrolling professional hackers to attack TPB - infrastructure sabotage, DOS, hacking, and spamming.

For bonus points: if the American divisions of the companies are involved, they can file charges in the USA, too. And in the USA, that's called "terrorism".

Pssh. It's only terrorism if they're not, y'know, white and U.S. friendly.

The exception that proves the rule.

Then again, there do seem to be a good many people that somehow see disliking SUVs as unAmerican, so maybe it does follow after all.

*twitch*

I am going to create either a bumper sticker or a T-shirt explaining that the word "proves" in that phrase is used in the archaic sense of "tests".

The exception challenges the rule. Calls it into question. Undermines it.

(Hard to get this into a snappy little button, though. May need to speak to the editors and type designers I know. I think they would appreciate this.)

Does double jeopardy apply to foreign convictions?

Not usually. It's occasionally possible if the other court also runs on British Common Law, like US, UK, CA, and OZ do - but it's extremely difficult to be tried in a foreign court *and* have a US court with valid jurisdiction over your trial.

In this case, however, it would not be one person being tried for the same crime, twice. It would be two people (the employees of Sony Sweden and the separate employees of Sony US) being tried for their individual parts in the same crime.
