Funny, when I think the words "but logic dictates" ccw. but when I think the words "but it doesn't feel right spatially..." cw. and thus I can switch it again and again and...
What's more interesting for me, though, is watching the angle of the hair on the back of her head. It seems to change depending on which direction I perceive her spinning in. I'm curious if it's actually changing direction, or if my perceptions are somehow changing.
also, when spinning counterclockwise, her left leg appears to be extended when she's facing front (noted by the breasts and partial facial features) whereas when spinning clockwise, it's right right.
Going one way her outstretched arm leads the outstretched leg, the other way it's reversed. Knowing this I still can't "make it work". Switching from clockwise to counterclockwise wasn't too tough, the other way is HARD.
She was clockwise for me for the longest time, and then I focused on the words to the left of her and I can't get her to stop going anticlockwise. It /is/ upsetting. I think I'll manage it again, though....
Basically all I do is look at it from the corner of my eye while looking off to the side. Eventually it switches. But by default I see clockwise. (However, in a strange twist, when loaded this page to comment, I saw anti-clock first, for the first time.)
hahaha that happened to me. First time I saw this post it was going clockwise and i couldn't get it to change no matter what, then just now I was scrolling back down my friends list and holy shit counterclockwise!
I doubt the validity of the test. The lady is constantly turning clockwise as far as I can see, and I am pathologically left-brained. Not only are my right hand, leg and eye dominant in all activities, but I have always had symptoms of right-side lesions: Unable to copy a simple line drawing while looking at it, unable to read emotion from facial expressions, unable to recognize faces except for my friends and family, and even those I cannot remember when closing my eyes. More stuff like that. I should have been unable to perceive the figure moving clockwise, but the opposite is true.
Extreme ditto. I've had less extreme versions of your symptoms, and also my left hand and leg were atrophied until I had physio. I still have continuing problems with strength and co-ordination down my entire left side.
I've done 3d modelling, and I know what's going on and can visualize it in wireframe... and all I can see is clockwise no matter how hard I struggle, cover up everything but the feet, everything but the shadow, etc.
Same here. I can't see her going any other way than clockwise. And looking at that list, you'd think my right brain wasn't connected at all. Though I am left-handed.
I see her clockwise, but likely that's because my computer has a low-end graphics card and the motion aliasing goes top-down. Were it smoother with less aliasing, that cue wouldn't necessarily dominate, I think.
Ok, if I look at the shadow of the foot that she's standing on, I can get the shadow part to go anti-clockwise for about a second, and then it switches back. I can't get any other part of her to go the other way though, and the second I see her extended leg pass, it immediately goes back to clockwise.. hmmmm
I saw it as a perception of which part is going behind her at a given time. I saw it by focusing on her bottom foot. Are her toes going behind her or in front of her?
I can see the whole of her going clockwise, but if I focus on one part, (the hair, the foot, the shadow) I can see that things don't quite match up- but not enough to see a switch, probably because for me she would have to be leading suddenly with the outstretched foot, and she isn't - the foot is following her shoulder and hip- thus- she is spinning to the right, going clockwise.
Then again- I could NEVER see the pictures in those black and white "3-D" pics either- no matter how long I stared or how unfocused I let my eyes get...

Date: 2007-10-09 06:44 pm (UTC)I saw it counterclockwise first, though. And it's pretty easy to switch; sometimes it does it by itself.
