It's a bit more complex than that. Canada is a petro-currency and part of the current drive is speculative. The Canadian dollar has gained 25-30 cents against the Euro in the last three years. Only the Brazilian real has appreciated against our dollar this year. The American economy obviously faces challenges (some of which will come and hit us, so don't be too gleeful to wish them ill) but this isn't the smoking gun.

Certainly Canada being a petro-currency certainly means that our dollar is appreciating faster against the American dollar, but the American dollar is tanking against just about everything - they're projecting that the Australian dollar is going to hit parity before the end of the year, for crissake - and the Fed's policy of monetizing just about every bump in the American economy is driving the dollar down, because, well, that's what happens when your standard response to every crisis is "print more money."

One more interest rate cut, and I can definitely see a spiral happening, which would be absolutely disastrous, for us as well as them.

The problem is, theyre rapidly running ot of stuff to cut. How much lower can the interest rates go? And were not even through the first 10th of the housing crash.

I'm not gleefully wishing them ill. I'm simply having an "I told you so" kind of decade.

The fact that their incompetence will fuck us up is an unfortunate side effect of our having tied our economy so tightly to a few hundred million batshit insane people who do batshit insane things and expect batshit insane results.
