In regards to my post on Emilie Autumn,
pope_guilty comments "If I knew you didn't know about her already, I'd have said something!"
He's got a point.
So, hook me up. Link me to the best band you think I might not know about - with a sample. Website, myspace, host your own MP3, I don't care. Hook me up with new music that you think is great and that you think I might not have heard before!

(Of course, it sounds much better in clear stereo...)
Here's one of their other songs, "Hybrid", hacked into Guitar Hero:

Date: 2007-11-09 12:35 am (UTC)My personal tastes wander to the much, much harder rock, but I don't have an upload option right now.
Disclaimer: I wouldn't have heard of them if my wife's cousin not been in the band for their last album. Since they disbanded, no longer sell records (IIRC) and provide most of their music free for download, I don't feel badly giving them a mention.

Date: 2007-11-09 02:23 am (UTC)And if I do this right, you can check out My Sister Klaus, who Joakim produced (they also wrote "Rocket Pearl" on Monsters and Other Silly Songs, which just might be one of my favourite songs I've heard in a long time.)
They can also be found at myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mysisterklaus
My room-mate won't stop listening to the She Wants Revenge cd, and I'm almost embarrassed to admit how much I also like it. Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/shewantsrevenge
Then there's Senor Coconut who is just... brilliant. If you're into latin-type of music. My co-worker brought in a cd where Senor Coconut redoes all of these Krafrwerk songs... it blew my mind. http://www.myspace.com/senorcoconutuk
And then there's my heavy metal fetish, but all those bands are either defunct or have changed their sound...

Date: 2007-11-09 03:03 am (UTC)Also, Midlake (http://www.myspace.com/midlake) , from Texas, and tuxedomoon (http://www.myspace.com/tuxedomoon) , who were kindasorta popular in the 70's & 80's, and have re-formed.
Lemme know what you like. I got a million of 'em.

Date: 2007-11-09 03:24 am (UTC)More bands:
Acid Bath - They don't have a general sound; a lot of their songs are completely different. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gkkblPdq0ik
Finntroll - http://youtube.com/watch?v=d3u86DPd7qc
Jag Panzer - You may know these guys. http://youtube.com/watch?v=9mEEVGTSGBM
That's all I can think of now, that you might like.

Son of edit:
Turns out I get different embed code in Firefox from what I get in Safari. WTF, Firefox?

Date: 2007-11-09 04:48 am (UTC)Here are a few vids.
If you dig it but don't have an easy way to get complete albums, let me know and I'll upload the ones I have to my webspace.
Sampling everything in the world in one big pot of shit...
Date: 2007-11-09 05:11 am (UTC)You might already know of Venetian Snares (http://www.myspace.com/venetiansnares). You can find more stuff of his on bleep (http://bleep.com/). His Opus Magnum is Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett. But he's got a lot of good shit.
The genre is breakcore, and there's a whole shitload of other artists.
Shitmat (search for him on bleep as well -- Babylon Cutz and Full English Breakfast are the two albums I'm more familiar with (due to these (http://dnb-sets.de/?suche=shitmat) live sets on dnb-sets.de -- in fact, good quality live sets of all these artists I'm mentioning can be found there, just do a search)
Bong-Ra (who's collaborated with V-Snares) and does some excellent Raggacore. Jahba (who does a wicked version of War Pigs). Donna Summer (aka: Jason Forrest), Toecutter (a bit of some crazy noisy sample-based breakcore, some of it is pretty offensive).
Scorpio Scorpio (http://www.myspace.com/scorpioscorpioscorpio) has some tunes (http://www.scorpioscorpio.com/THEBEASTITCOMETH.htm). (also on dnb-sets), though he's definitely not for everyone. A bit on the silly side, but fun, I think.
If you're not familiar with breakcore, Google video has Notes on Breakcore (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4128774194402953175) a documentary about the "scene". Pretty damn good, IMO, and has some other artists to see/hear, as well as those I've mentioned.
Some of the more commonly known artists who can be considered in the same vein are Aphex Twin, Mu-Ziq and Squarepusher, even though they're not necessarily considered "breakcore", per se, but that would give you a an idea. Just add some ragga vocal stylings on some music, more noise and gabber and mashup techniques and you have breakcore.
