Dec. 18th, 2007 04:20 pmIn California, highway cops will be pulling over perfectly law-abiding motorists to give them Starbucks gift cards. No, really.
And in New York City, cops are leaving wallets and purses around, watching to see who picks them up, and arresting anyone who doesn't immediately hand them over to the nearest cop.
It's worth noting, here, that the law doesn't require that you give things to the nearest cop, and allows 10 days to turn found property in. As well, they've recently started sticking fake credit cards into the wallets because that way, they get you on Grand Larceny instead of petty theft.
