I'm guessing that at 25 I'm about median age for people reading this, so probably a goodly number of people reading this don't remember or simply weren't alive in a worse time. It's Reagan all over again, and for seven years we haven't had the brakes that the Democratic Congress of the 80's applied.

I was actually going back a lot further. I'm guessing a black man running for President is not going to say it's a lot worse for non-white, non-male, non-rich people than it was in the 50's - 18 or 19.

No, his problem is that he's poor, and poor people have no defense against the law in the USA - as you can see, because it took the personal intervention of a US Senator to get him released.

But in the USA, if you're not white, male, heterosexual, and rich, you're a second-class citizen. Take two or more of those and you're third-class at best.

Seems like all of the cases mentioned in the article started with the person being in jail for something or another. So either they're miscreants to begin with, or they're singled out victims?

I was still under the impression that it wasn't acceptable to deport US citizens as illegal immigrants, even if they *are* miscreants.

Shit, that was outdated before we even got into this century. From internment camps for the Japanese during World War II, to martial law declared during the Civil War and a million other infringements. It's a nice ideal, but ideals never work in the real world.

This example is of the victimisation of a poor man. There are thousands of others where race and gender and religion matter, too - all of which, including this one, are symptoms of the larger cancer infecting the US government.

I'm not disagreeing with you in the slightest.

One could spend a year just trying to detail JUST the heinously offensive travesties of justice to be found in the Hutto facility in Texas and still not properly outline the level that American civil liberties have degraded.

My point is that you hurt the overall argument by putting out your information in the contet and manner that you have chosen.
