George Bush has this painting on the wall of his office. He loves this painting and used the title of the painting, "A Charge To Keep" as the title of his autobiography.

Quoth Bush:
Of course, when you actually look up the artist and the source of the painting and the original caption, you learn that "Bush’s inspiring, prosyletizing Methodist is in fact a silver-tongued horse thief fleeing from a lynch mob" - shortly before being caught and hung. The original caption on the painting? "Had His Start Been Fifteen Minutes Longer He Would Not Have Been Caught." Nobody's sure where the name "A Charge To Keep" came from - the best guess so far is that Bush made it up himself.

Quoth Bush:
I thought I would share with you a recent bit of Texas history which epitomizes our mission. When you come into my office, please take a look at the beautiful painting of a horseman determinedly charging up what appears to be a steep and rough trail. This is us. What adds complete life to the painting for me is the message of Charles Wesley that we serve One greater than ourselves. So: Bush personally identifies with this figure from the painting and thinks of him as a Methodist missionary spreading the gospel.
