That was creepy. I went to a performance of Handel's Messiah with the significant other, and a bat actually made several passes over the stage and audience.
Yup- Very cool little critters... Well- not so little, but I know a place where you can help support one! This gal's got a link here someplace... http://inthepuddle.com/index.php
I'm quite aware of Bat Conservation Intenational. BCI and the National Speleological Society (cavers and cave scientists) have overlapping memberships.
Incidentally, flying foxes and their relatives typically roost in trees, not caves or houses. Hence the bigger eyes than most bats. Also, they eat fruit, so no stalking needed (heh), as opposed to bats that eat bugs. Since you know about BCI you're aware of this, but others aren't.
I knew about the trees, but it took me a minute to figure out the eyes,,, (Facepalm) They are out in daylight- and don't use the sonar so much, but they DO use the sight to find the fruit and differentiate between edible and non, right?
(I had to LAUGH when I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark a while back, and realized the bats the "Natives" were so afraid of, were flying foxes! HARDLY going to attack you, dudes- unless you are a banana.)
Some do roost in caves. At dusk you can watch a mass migration where they spread out to where the fruit is. It's one of the prettiest features of where I live. But caves aren't as plentiful as trees I guess.
That first picture killz me ded. I want to dip my fingers in mango nectar and let them lick it. Look at them. They are puppies!

I do like the idea of a flying chihuahua, but cleaning up after one would be a pain...
