To reuse my comment on the subject from somewhere else: I saw that, and did not comment on it because I really did not know what to say. It was the typing equivalent of mouth opening and closing like a fish.
A news site with an address that begins with 'o' should have an icon that looks like a leaf, because that article wasn't nearly as funny as I was expecting.
The whole set up seems unbelievable anyway, almost as if the people setting it up were deliberately trying to draw as much attention and criticism to the situation as possible.
You know, I actually used to think you were a little harsh when you used the term "third-world country".
But six hundred thousand people uninsured in a state with a population of less than four million? And a hundred thousand of those children?
(I know. I know. I'm going to go curl up in a corner and repeat "What the hell are they supposed to *do* if they get sick and can't afford it?" for a while, okay?)
"Third World" is an obsolete term, (since the Second World no longer exists) but if you're going to use it in the sense of referring to the Global South, it's not horribly inaccurate to say the US is a First World nation geographically coextant with a Third World one, where the citizenship is determined by class (economic and social.)
