As someone who works in research, I'd like to say that you can always trust the figures. You just can't trust the interpretations.

Also, the Metro's side bars are always genius: 'If It's Worth Doing, It's Worth Doing Naked.'

And to support wyatt1048's assertion, as my stats prof said, "figures don't lie but liars figure." Give a statistician raw data, s/he can make it say anything. "Average" has three (or more) definitions, so you can pick whichever one fits the result you want. And so on.
