$13,000 USD (about $300 CDN)

The US has changed their currency to be called the "United States Lira" (abbr. "USL").

That's not actually due to take effect until next year (04012009) and it might still be contraindicated by the next Pres, who can still issue an executive order concerning the law.

*quietly calculates what $10,000 US will get you in terms of food, shelter, housing, and health care in California, versus what $10,300 will get you in Ontario*

Uh-huh.

Really not that hard.

Mind you, of course, everything I'm hearing about housing bubbles and depression and economic slump Down South has probably been blown *way* out of proportion, and things are just going along as per usual except for a tiny, statistically insignificant handful of people who are foreclosing on their houses.

(And if you *really* can't find a job... eh, we have this decent social safety net up here that I for one am glad to help pay for.)

Actually, most of those gains were in the part-time sector and as such are refered to as "soft gains" and when you get such a sudden up-surge over two months, it is almost always a sign of econimic slow-down in the near future which appears to be supported by the drop in new hires for the most recent month's report.

Neverminding the fact that there has been serious stagnation in the southern Ontario housing market over the past few years.

As for our housing "bubble", the damn thing needed to pop 10 years ago and would have except the investment houses in need of a replacement after the tech bust decided to invest in mortgages which in turned spawned a series of pretty horrendous sub-prime market business practices. But, all told, American housing prices NEEDED to come down. No one could actually afford the pruices we had.
