I don't think bible readers would be surprised. Some form of these critters shows up in Judges chapter 14 (Samson's riddle).

Sure, but the Bible also has rabbits that chew their cud and a world-wide flood.

So I suspect they mostly *would* be surprised to discover that the carnivorous bees were actually real.

Yeah- hasn't everyone heard of Meat Bees? I had a chunk taken out of my arm once by one... damn but it HURT! We used to make traps for the little buggers, using chicken or tuna... And hardly ever a summer went by without me getting bit /stung by one of them in the course of things.
