Well, M16s didn't kick much as long as you held it correctly and fired single shot, not auto. All bets would probably be off in a firefight (which I luckily managed to avoid in the Vietnam days).
- I have fired 4,000 rounds over the course of a day with a C7A1, without cleaning it. No FTE's, FTF's, or similar stoppages were encountered. The only thing that happens is that the rifle gets a bit sluggish.
- My civvie side LMT AR-15 has none of these reliability problems that you speak of.
I think that the bad rep the AR system has comes from (don't take this as a shot) inept gun owners and soldiers who don't understand how to properly maintain the weapon system - as well as those who buy a 500 dollar discount special rifle, and expect it to perform to the same standard as an LMT or Colt. The -only- time that I've had an issue with the weapons system, was when my bolt froze into the upper receiver during a two-week training exercise in extremely cold and erratic New Brunswick weather. This issue was easily corrected, when no one was looking.
Also, she could probably fire it. My significant other (smaller than the woman pictured) has easily fired rifles and shotguns which have significantly more recoil than the 5.56/.223.
Psst! Hal's qualifications, on guns, are better than yours. His experience is greater than yours, he's been doing it better, for longer, and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.
Unless he gets shipped to Afghanistan and shot, of course.
So could you please at least try to behave like an adult, once in a while, with people who are civilly disagreeing with you? Some of them are a hell of a lot more qualified than you to speak on the topic.
For beefy redheads with AKs, I suggest you try asking dashing. He's got a line on the right area of the world for that.
