They're guilty under US law, too. The question is whether or not they'll get a pass on the grounds that basing your crimes on Christianity means you don't go to jail, just like rich white popular men can't be convicted of raping poor women.
There are about 100,000 "Christian Scientists" in the world, but, if we're lucky, one good case of measles should soon get that down to four digits or so.
Man, that would tick me off. I said I lke prayer, but that doesn't mean you ignore the science. Jeebus! People that do this piss me off. i hate when people act like medicine and science are the enemy just because they disagree with their baby-like paradigm of the world.
Newsflash. if you really believe in god, then he didn't just make you and your fundie friends, he also made the nice doctor who could save your little girl's life. You think God screwed up so badly that he's got the entire civilized world doing things he doesn't want? How incompetent do you think this guy is?
Shit like this bothers me because it's ignorant cretins dragging the idea of a supreme being down to their level.
Even if you believe their shit, god is eternal. You think he gives a shit if you live an extra ten years? You think he cares a lick? And if he cares that much, do you honestly think any doctor in the world can stop him from taking your baby girl home? not a chance.
I also like people that think that revelations is technically accurate, and not a satirical recount of the fall of rome. like God can't write satire? George orwell wrote satire and the all mighty is sure as shit a better writer that george orwell!
Good. If there's a god, I'm sure he's a big fan of natural selection. I just wish that the poor girl didn't have to suffer for her parents' ignorance. God doesn't help those who don't help themselves.
And by natural selection I meant that I hope the parents kick it early of something horrible they could have prevented... not that I'm glad their child passed away. I find that very sad.
I think people can believe what they like. The courts had no reason to penalize them before.
To me, the issue isn't that they don't believe in medicine. If you are a legal adult who prefers death over medical treatment, then that is your right.
It is not your right, however, to kill your children because of your beliefs.
The child deserved much better. An adult wants to screw their lives up like this or throw it away then that's fine - but they ahve no right to do it to a child. they are unfit as parents if they cannot put their child's welfare before their own desires.

Date: 2008-04-29 05:49 pm (UTC)I was raised in a cult that didn't believe in certain medical treatments either and that shit is fucking insane.
Reason #3,296 for why I don't like organized religion.

Date: 2008-04-29 11:11 pm (UTC)Wow. So they can't even use the "my priest told me prayer" works as a defense. It's just blind idiocy/ignorance on their part. Astonishing.
The real tragedy is that someone had to die before action was taken against these people.
