The lion was recaptured last night, around 2 am IIRC. Last I heard (8:20 am EDT), it is resting in a police cell awaiting the arrival of Faune and Parcs (wildlife) officers. Talks are underway to have an (unspecified) zoo acquire it. No darts were used in its recapture. The lion was found hiding in a ditch. The police car headlights frightened it and it retreated, but after the officer turned down (or off?) the lights and called the lion it came back. Somehow the lion let itself be hogtied. At the police station it has been fed steaks provided by the officer who captured it.

I'm very impressed the officer didn't shoot the lion.

He wasn't even hogtied. The lion let them put a collar and leash on him, and got into the back of the police car with minimum encouragement.

The entire department was informed that he was a) young, and b) pretty tame. Knows his own name, comes when called, that kind of thing. I heard the interviews on the radio with the police chief and it was a hilarious blend of "I don't know the laws on this but I'm bloody sure it's illegal" and "We have a LION in our HOLDING CELLS. Isn't that COOL?"

They wanted to make Boomer their mascot ;)

That's odd. I was listening to Daybreak on CBC radio. They were interviewing the officer who captured the lion and I could swear he said "hogtied" and did not mention neither collar nor leash.

Hm. Now that's interesting. I heard the interview with the police chief this morning (on CBC 1) and he said leash and collar.

Which one is 940 AM? I preferred it when one was CBC Stereo and the other was CBC Radio. What time did you hear your interview? I really didn't hear the collar and leash part. I turned off the radio after The Current came on. I was wondering how the agents de la faune handled the move. They would probably use a crate; the trick is getting the lion into the crate.

Neither, in my listening area, so I don't think I can help.

CBC 1 is the talky one (if you had the Current, that's probably what you were listening to). CBC 2 is the one with all the classical music. These are English, if you were listening in French I have no idea if they use the same system.

If you're in a different listening area (or listening in French!), you were probably hearing a different morning show - I'm in Ottawa, and it was the English Ottawa morning show hosts here interviewing the police chief just before the 7:30 news.

I'm more inclined to believe the "arresting officers" story than the chief, but I do have to wonder if his part got exaggerated for dramatic effect ;)

If Boomer's eating, I expect they could probably lure him into a bear-crate with some hamburger or a whole chicken or something.

I must say that the leash and collar version is more plausible in that it would be easier to get a willing lion into the back seat of of a police cruiser under its own power that it would be to hoist a struggling, possibly biting, hogtied lion.

CBC One then, thanks. 8-) In English. We get the Montreal content broadcast "across the community network" on 101.7 AM (Cowansville) here.

Latest news, Boomer is heading here to Granby right about now. He's going straight to quarantine, but after that, I dunno. We have a male lion and who knows what's Boomer's pedigree. If we keep him I guess he'll be neutered. Introducing him to the other lions will be interesting.

If left alone, would it end up hunting moose?

Being hunted BY moose, so they can lay their eggs in his exotic flesh, perhaps.
