It is a lamda. The project in Half-Life that everyone was working on was the lambda reactor.

Thus confirming my suspicion that gay people are really aliens from another dimension who are out to eat my brain with their lurking, pulsating fleshbeasts.

I thought that half-life was more about biological freaks of nature (at least, I thought it was about mutants, which may be me confusing Half-Life with Fallout, which would be not-so-embarassing). Which, really, is why that's vaguely offensive. Except that I'm SURE that they didn't mean it that way.

What, that the designers aren't up on Sooper Sekrit Gay Code, and picked a greek letter because it made a cool symbol and sounded neat?

Sierra Games is based in Silicon Valley, so I doubt ignorance is the excuse.

Two words:
Bull.
Shit.
Worst case, I bet one of the designers got it, knew it was irrelevant, and decided not to bring it up.

None of the gay guys I know seem to have ever heard of it, either. Admittedly, I haven't asked them all, but I'm batting 1.000 on four so far.
