EDIT: Okay, I've had my fun.

The reason I have your icon, or your old icon, or maybe you don't see anything, is that it's pulling out of Livejournal's cached "scratch space"

Basically, if you upload a pic that's too big, it puts it in a scratch space, loads it into the editor, lets you modify it, and lets you save the result in a pic slot.

However, it doesn't *delete* that scratch image. And the image is still there, stored in your account, weeks or months later.

Meaning that this thing pulls out *the last picture you edited using livejournal's picture editor*.

... I've been using that awesome retro picture as my AI irony-icon for my posts.. is that where you got it, or did you randomly find it yourself? 'cause if so, wow, coincidence.

S'funny, I used that for one of my LJ icons, too.

It's my Star Wars LARP icon- I use it for game-related posts.

I certainly created the one with that writing, although I've no idea who else may have come up with the idea simultaneiously.

Edit: Looking below, it seems like a case of parallel development :P

Ah, neat. I see what's happening here.

For a second there I was wondering where the hell you got a picture of my cat. :)

Ah yes.. this is one of my LJ icons as well.

And I have the full-sized picture that it's from. ;)

Okay, when I saw the picture that's showing for ME, it caught me completely off-guard.

From some of the comments, I think I understand what's going on. My question is, "whoa, how?" :)

Ahhhh, *now* I get it--having logged in, and all.

That's really neat.

It's an evil trick. Notice *how many* people are going "Hey! That's my icon!"?

Nope. You're just not seeing the same picture he is.

The URL is http://www.livejournal.com/misc/mogupic.bml?size=200

If you hit that page, it pulls one of your own pictures, out of the logged-in journal, and returns it.

So what I've posted is, essentially, an image that is an icon or a pic of *whoever is looking at it at the time*.

You don't have any pictures in your account. Like me, you see nothing.

For people who DO have pictures, this shows them one of their own pictures.

Yeah, I was getting that. In my case, it's a picture that I've never uploaded the full version to my journal...but I think it was the last one I was using their editor to make a user pic out of. Is that the tomfoolery we're dealing with?

Except, of course, that since I don't have LJ Pics or whatever it's called enabled, and the last time I saw that image was in a post I made about a year ago, and at the time it was hosted on *Photobucket* and *isn't in my Photobucket gallery anymore*, I'd really like to know where the damn thing got it.

Seems to be - I only ever used their editor for one icon, and that was the image I used. The other icons I have I edited by hand to appropriate size.
