Remember the inmate who lost 50kg in a year, and complained about being starved?

He's been caught giving his food to other inmates.

(He is still losing weight dangerously, and is probably not getting enough calories to begin with - but I suspect it's not JUST the amount of food that's the problem.)

That IS a rather peculiar twist.

They're on a 3000 calorie a day food plan...if they choose to eat their food, at least. ;) Surely that's enough for someone as large as that?

I still think the root of his protest is that it's all cold food.

I was appalled to read that apparently the average American eats something like 3700 calories a day. I don't know where that figure comes from, but it was in an International Herald Tribune article about the global food shortage.

Read a post recently (doubless by way of Monsieur Weasel, here) that listed some typical fast-food / frozen-food-aisle breakfasts, and they started at about 900 calories and ended around 2500, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Couple that with sedentary lifestyles, and it starts getting really scary.

If it needs to be said, I'm not suggesting that it's that much different in Canuckistania, and my own large ass is certainly bitten by a sedentary lifestyle, as well. ;)

I wonder if I can find that post again. It took a Hungry Man Double Sausage With Eggs, Cheese, and Hashbrowns type breakfast to hit the really redonkulous calorie totals, but still, they're obviously selling them to (a lot of) people...

3000 calories of bologna sandwiches isn't exactly healthy though.

Fair point. I was assuming they were getting something approaching a balanced diet -- maybe they're not.

If he's giving his food away that that destroys any court case I imagine. I mean, how can he argue he isn't getting enough food when he gives the food away? *is bemused*
