Carbon nanotubes may have health risks similar to asbestos

Of course, since nanotube fibres aren't exposed the way asbestos was, it's much less serious, but still a concern for manufacturers.

Some of the proposed / patented manufacturing techniques for room-temperature manufacture or assembly of nanotube material involve open-air conveyor-belt self-assembly; I visited a lab that was 'growing' them and had plenty of opportunity to breathe particulate. They were doing it that way specifically because it did not need an ultra-clean-room nor ovens, which are incredibly capital-intensive.

This probably puts something of a crimp on their plans.
