The tiger escaped and thought the alligator looked tasty. I never knew alligator skin stretched that much. Doesn't look like it could, normally.

I dunno that alligator looks pretty dead to me, otherwise the skin wouldn't do that, would it?

I suddenly realize how little I know about alligators....or is that a croc? I forget how to tell the difference. I'm sure someone here will educate me. *waits*

It's actually REALLY easy to tell the difference. Alligators have shorter, wider snouts. Crocodiles have longer, much thinner snouts.

Also, even our skin is that stretchy, really. The only other possibility is that it was ripped up on the other side that we can't see. But at the same time it is giving the illusion of being stretched more than it really is, because the tiger is actually lifting the alligator's front end off the ground at the same time (as you can see from the front legs and angle of the head).

Okay, so it's an alligator. But considering that the alligator's skin is MUCH tougher than ours, it would take a lot of force to pull it off like that if the animal was alive. Now I'm not saying that the tiger isn't strong, but an alligator isn't just going to hold still for that! That's why I think it's dead--it's not thrashing. Also, the eye that we can see looks...not right.

The skin doesn't look all that stretched to me, at least not for, well, skin.[*] Proportionately, I've seen human and diog skin stretch easily that much without significant pain (though I imagine the teeth digging in to grab on hurt), and much greater apparent stretch in cat skin (which is not as well connected to the underlying tissues as the skin of most other mammals). I don't really know jack about reptile skin though.

[*] My father was fond of pointing out that skin is about the most elastic substance known, and backing it up with Biblical evidence. After all, 'Moses tied his ass to a tree and walked seven miles' ... But other than this footnote, I'm being serious.

That's a crocodile. Alligators have upturned snouts while crocodiles have snouts that are flat or rounded down. they also have more flesh, so it might not be dead. I find it unlikely that it's mouth would be open if it were dead.
