Har dee har har.

The investigator on the radio this morning said the first three all appeared to have detached due to decomposition -- none were severed. (the fourth is still being investigated, so he wouldn't say anything at all about it.) And lots of shoes, particularly sneakers, float. So as the bodies rotted/were eaten, the feet became detached and floated to the surface.

Note the story said three out of the four feet were right feet, not left; further, note that "sinister" derives from sinister, meaning "left, on the left side."

Your story should have therefore been entitled:

Something dexterous is afoot in British Columbia.

Nono, it's something sinister.

Because whereever it is, it has all the left feet.

Actually, we don't know what it has, only that it no longer has the right footsies. Therefore, perhaps the title should be:

Something anti-dexterous in BC.
