“Candice Knilans waits for her husband, Petty officer 3rd Class John Knilans, to disembark from the carrier Harry S. Truman… after the strike group’s seven month deployment ended."
Plus, the shoes would have been at least a hair worn, just subtly - she's never walked an inch in those shoes. Just out of the box even without the Payless sticker on there. The flash is still on the tips of her heels.
I'd leave the sticker on, myself. It's adds a kind of sweet just-new-trying-hard poignancy to the shot, as opposed to just a pair of kinda vampy hot-pink heels.
Martial homecoming is exactly that. If he's a third class, this is probably their first deployment separation since they got married. She's been missing her husband for months, and wanted to look pretty for him. She probably hasn't worn high heels since he left, which is why she ran out to get some.
now that i know the context thing, the stickers on her shoes, and the heart tattoo scream "I've missed you so much and want to be a vision of hot-ness for when you see me" instead of "photography school assignment" or "tila tequila plots her next attack on society"
Not if she put them on right before she got out of the car. I wouldn't try to drive in those, would you? I'd drive in sandals and put the heels on when I got there.
I did, but after this was already said; Please read my comment in toto, and context.
Had I not mentioned aspects of the photo (relating to the effect male gaze has) I probably would have deleted it, but since it wasn't just a comment about the context, I didn't.

see, this is why context is everything
Date: 2008-06-13 02:58 pm (UTC)Pictures may be worth a thousand words, but not the words you're thinking of if you're thinking "shore leave" instead of "martial homecoming"

It has a lot of "male gaze" aspects, but more of that is the male gaze the subject is trying to please, than it is the male gaze of the photographer.
