What're you wishing for? :)

EDIT: Rawther, are you wishing for D3 in general? Since it's highly likely that's about to be announced... or something specific regarding it?

I want it, and I want it to not suck, and I want it to not all be stupid multiplayer-required shit.

Because I *hate* playing games online. I love playing games online with people I know, but that's rarely what you get. Usually, you get hordes of spastic illiterate Croatians.

Well, for the last couple of days, Blizzard.com and worldofwarcraft.com have been posting mysterious splash screens which today started revealing a couple of the Diablo II runes ("Sur" and "Nef"), so it's looking like the rumors of them announcing Diablo III at world wide invitational this weekend are likely to be true. :)

Yeah, but they're ice. The new WoW expansion takes place on a continent mostly covered in ice. The new character class draws its power from runes instead of mana/rage/whatever, and we know that Blizzard has never recycled anything from Warcraft I-III or Diablo in World of Warcraft. *cough*

It's probably going to be something WLK related that just hasn't been announced yet, like they held back on the final playable races in WCIII and the new classes in DII.

I know that Diablo 3 would work well as a prequel during the Sin Wars, though who knows if it would be decent following D2.

Three times.

Because Diablo was great, and Diablo II was also great.

Just like System Shock was amazing, System Shock 2 was kinda okay, and Bioshock was crap.

I kinda liked 2 more than 1 (system shock)

One had it in the story and 'oh shit', two in playability and enjoyment by far. God. Damned Droids. *hug*--->*Boom*

I hated those guys, not because they were difficult, but because they were loud and creepy.

Though remember, Thief 2 was better than Thief 1, and Thief 3 was pretty decent for being delayed so long. Bioshock was hobbled by having to pander to console sensibilities. Had they done something as simple as having hacking use some kind of disposable widget like in SS2, I think the game would have been worlds better than what we got.

Bioshock *did* have a disposable widget for hacking - the Automated Hack Tool.

The problem is that the game was linear and *boring*. "Kill everything" was the only solution possible, and there were only a few even semi-effective ways to kill enemies. Other ways *worked*, but were slower and required both more work AND often special setups.

When the very first weapon and the very first plasmid are not only the only ones you need, but are significantly better than every other one in the game combined? You've got lousy game design.

All that's true. By 'hacking', though, I meant that in Bioshock you could play the Waterwerks minigame every time and be out no money or widgets. I could be misremembering, but in SS2 and Deus Ex (don't get me started on shitty sequels with that one) you still had to use an item to hack. I went through Bioshock with a couple hacking upgrades and never had to use an autohacker or money for the buyout option, ending up with max cash all the time and a full stock of every random item I could carry. I can't give it all bad marks, though, because it was all kinds of pretty, and the acting was mostly superb - the level that 'artist' guy lived on still gives me the creeps.

*cries, because it WILL not be what she wants it to be*

I started playing the first game before the second game was released. This is unusual for me for two reasons. First, I usually get into a series in the middle, and start it once I'm already a fan. Second, I was about 12 at the time, and while my mom was quite liberal about sex, she was rather more protective when it came to violence. While Diablo's no DOOM, the fact that she had me playing a hack'n'slash at 12 is notable. Not only that, but she loved it too. And she loved the second one.

But they'll fuck this one up. It'll be MMO, and they'll sacrifice a story with actual hooks for some splashy graphics. The play style will be overhauled and it will be DIFFERENT, and I know I sound like a whiny geek (and I am), but that's not what *anybody* wants!

If Diablo III is not a game my MOM would enjoy playing, then it fails in the legacy of the Diablo series. I fear this will be the case.

I really doubt it'll be an MMO. Blizzard is doing a decent job running one MMO(World of Warcraft), but I don't think they could hack it with two.

This. Running two at once would be an act of insanity, especially two that are basically in the same genre; I could perhaps see some kind of psychotic event in upper management and starting a Starcraft themed MMO simply because now it's IN SPACE so hopefully won't just be siphoning off marketshare from WoW, but competing directly with yourself would be insane.

I also desperately want a single player friendly Diablo III OMG WANT. So yeah, might be talking with my hopes and dreams here, but

Blizzard already has Russian Space Goats in WoW. They don't need an entire game in space... do they?

And anyway, it's still not WoW in space until we have actual lazurs to use.

The only reason I stopped playing II was the fact that Blizzard gained bandwidth for WoW by taking it from II. Lockups were the norm. Sucked.

(We played on Battlenet in private games, rather than direct ISP address crap. Yes, we could do the ISP thing, but the others have moved on to WoW.)

We talked about this before, years ago. All of my time had been invested in my Battlenet characters, so I didn't feel like building up my single-players. It's really frustrating to get used to full armor sets and rare weapons, only to start playing with basically nothing.

Still, I had a level 90 meatshield casting Necromancer that my friends considered invaluable. They're still bitter I don't play anymore. I am, however, getting quite a bit around the house done. . . . Correlation?
