Unreal Tournament 2007 is on sale at EB for $10. I have a copy. I think you should, too. And then we can play online, because playing online with random internet people sucks, whereas playing networked with people you know is a lot of fun.

I might just resurrect [livejournal.com profile] play_diablo and add a little "or Unreal Tournament!" subtitle if there's interest.

Does UT2007 cost monthly fees?

No. It's a single-player first-person shooter with strong multiplayer support, but there are no fees required to play locally or over the internet, and no subscriptions. I believe it is also free to play over the Gamespy hub, but I don't know, because I haven't done that yet.

It wants you to set up a Gamespy account and sign in to that when it starts the program, but this is not required.

Wow. Sounds like a deal to me. I have $35 on a EB card sitting in my wallet (I even checked it recently to make sure it was still okay). :)

I really need something like that for Team Fortress 2. I'd love to play it a little (having bought the Orange Box for Portal and oh yeah HL2 episodes), but I really don't want to play with random unknowns.

I'm tempted by that, I love random Unreal blowing shit up.

I could probably get it fairly cheap off Steam, given the exchange rate.

If a local store doesn't have one, I could pick up one that's local to me.

I may take you up on that offer, because there are no EBs in my end of the city, and going downtown usually makes me hate all human life.

I checked wikipedia and the maker's website to be sure. I bought it on the strength of "Unreal" and "$10", and EB's label said UT2007. But the cover of the box says UT3, and Wikipedia Pete tells me they're the same.

Which makes me happy!

I have 2k4, but my little laptop can't handle 2k7.

Is it a big improvement? I've not yet played it.

The graphics are certainly better. The weapons are balanced slightly differently - the flak grenades don't go as far, the chaingun has a more accurate slower-firing secondary mode, the shock rifle primary ROF is down and secondary projectile speed is up, the lightning gun is gone completely.

But it's basically the same game.
