How To Deal With A Stalker

The "Jesse" they mention at the start is a co-blogger and former stalker. He appears in the comments, and the story of his that they're mentioning is here.

Stalker used ex-employer as job reference

What in the name of Elvis is the worth of references if you can't give a bad reference or even say why an ex-employee is no longer working for you?

Mr. R overcame that challenge stylishly, though

it's illegal (in the UK at least) to give a *bad* reference, mainly because it would be a bit shitty for people who just didn't get on with their boss. Not giving a reference is a big huge red flag though, which kind of makes up for it.

Why would you ever name as a reference someone who isn't going to give you a good one?

Leaving aside the "dumb shit" possibility, of course, or that you're betting they won't call your references.

There are a lot of dumb shits out there. Some of the people I know who screen/interview candidates regularly could tell you some stories...

Interesting stuff.

I bet the security firm they mention is Gavin de Becker's.

That's the conclusion everyone else has come to, so far.

I'm sure it's not the only one out there, but it sounds a lot like the service he describes in his book. The first half or so of which is excellent, btw...once he starts talking about all the celebrities he works with, it becomes less interesting/useful. My kung fu teacher agrees with a lot of what's in it, though, especially how listening to intuition can keep you out of trouble in the first place.

People are always surprised that the places they're most likely to get into trouble are the places they routinely go...when, if you think about it, this makes perfect sense.
