Hey, if the people teaching the religion are saying "Uh, no, the religion doesn't prohibit or contradict that, and you're doing something AGAINST the religion by trying to stop it", that's gotta mean something.

"Argument from authority" implies that the authority in question is not qualified to be treated as a source - for example, "this car is safest because Mick Jagger likes it" versus "This car is safest because all the studies and tests from people who do this professionally say so."

Not neccessarily. "218 scientists say astrology is bunkum" is argument from authority. "The research of 218 scientists indicates that astrology is bunkum" is not.
