What is that? I can't tell if the orifice-looking thing below the eye is a nostril or a badly-photoshopped extra eye. Either way, it's freaking me out.
Scent gland, not nostril. Great for leaving big black gobs of special scented goop on low branch tips to wow the ladies and repulse the interlopers.
Dikdiks are my favorite antelopes, right after zebra duikers and gerenuk and bongo. And Thompson's. And springbok. And bontebok. And waterbuck. Shucks, antelope are *cute*!
I remember being at a zoo where they had a dikdik exhibit. Fortunately, it was one of those zoos that tries to replicate the animal's habitat as much as possible and give them space where they can be out of the way if they want. Unfortunately for me, all the dikdiks had chosen this option and were no doubt happily chewing away out of sight of any annoying humans, so I didn't see them.
