"Gold farming" is an MMO term, for killing monsters to get gold (which everyone *can* do) for the purpose of selling it to players who don't want to spend hours killing monsters to get gold, for real-world money.

"Botting" is using a program to play the game for you, so you can run more than one character at once - if I can run, say, 8 bots at once, all of which are collecting gold without my intervention, this means I can make 8 times the amount of sellable currency.

Realistically, bot-herders have to supervise the bots and help them out of sticky situations (like tricky bits of geometry that the bot is stupid enough to get caught on, or when a GM shows up and demands they prove they're humans), so it tends to work out as "Minimal intervention" rather than none.

It's like an automated factory basically doesn't need people, but you still have some kicking around just in case - only bot programmers have sloppier standards because if the bot goes wrong, a couple million dollars of equipment can't get trashed.
