John McCain on Hillary Clinton's healthcare policy, October 2007:
"I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig,"

Barack Obama on the fact that John McCain's policies are identical to Bush's, September 2008:
"you know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig."

John McCain:
"Lipstick on a pig" is sexist! It's a swipe at Sarah Palin, despite being my own words and directed at me! He's a sexist! My running mate has a vagina! All vaginas should vote for my vagina!

Me, (and also Barack Obama): Stop wasting airtime on this kind of stupid shit and start covering *real things*, reportermorons.

Edit:
And a pile of *other* past uses of "lipstick on a pig", largely from Republicans. Another past Obama usage, *three* more McCains, a Dick Cheney, a Lynne Cheney, Ann Richards, John Boehner, Dick Santorum....

The election is being played off as Obama versus Palin...the republican strategists were apparently watching the democrats over the spring. They figured out the best way to divide the liberal base is to set the black man against the white woman...I figure McCain is going to win, they'll just steal the election if they can get the vote closer to a 50/50 scenario...it's easier to steal a few thousand votes than a few million to shore up the numbers against a landslide...One prays that either McCain or Palin will fuck up royally just short of the election..I figure if Joe Biden gets too hard on her during the VP debates she'll cry and win some extra sympathy points...The women in this country don't vote based on reason but on emotion, they all see themselves in the Sarah Palin character and will vote for her, despite the fact she wants to declare this the United States of Jesus and end abortions...

Also given all the gaffes McCain has made and the positive response Palin has received (looks only), divert the attention away from the old fogey and focus it on the young flesh w/o a brain.

-_-

I admit, I may have issues with Canadian politicians, but there is never any shit like this going on.

"The women in this country don't vote based on reason but on emotion"

That, on the other hand, IS an accurate example of sexism. You were merely being illustrative, I'm sure.

I do truly hope you have your tongue FIRMLY Planted in your cheek when you make such a broad and sweeping statement as, "The women in this country don't vote based on reason but on emotion, they all see themselves in the Sarah Palin character,..."
Because that is not the fact of the matter.

Oh, part of me hope she does cry. Because they'll be hoping that crying will win sympathy points. And then I hope people will realize that the leaders of our country can't cry when confronted with a little stress.

Palin's a lose/lose from the perspective of women.

She's grossly incompetent and was chosen solely on the basis of her sex, but *her* failures will be seen as the failures of *women* - her crying will be because *women* are too weak to lead. Her inability to run the country after McCain's heart attack will be because *women* can't run the country.

Her successes, of course, will be because she's an exceptional person and not be generalisable in any way.

It's the same way with Obama and blacks.

Sooooo tired of the faux drama. Bring on the debates! At least one candidate should try and sway the undecided voters to their favor with some kind of actual, political, relevant issues. I am sick of reading about the mud slinging, the whining, and the same bs soundbite crap - "Vote for me because I am pro-choice" "Vote for me because I am pro-life!" "Vote for me because I like kittens!" Some of us care about what you intend to do as a president beyond your feelings on the moral issue hot-buttons of the day.

Ugh. The coverage of this election is making me positively sick. If I hear one more person insist I should vote one way or the other because I have a vagina / am pro-choise / are pro-life / supporting equality / like red ties / prefer blue pin stripes I am going to scream. When did I become incapable of making an informed decision just because I happen to have a vagina?

There is so much wrong with this I cannot even begin.

Is lipstick on a pig even a sexist term? I mean really? It means you can't hide something ugly by applying such a minor cosmetic alteration. I can see where people can think it sexist if they consider pig to mean ugly woman but I thinkt he term actually is literal.

And to then attack someone for using the term when he has used it so often - how dumb can he be to think it won't be noticed? How dumb can people be not to notice? Since when do REPUBLICANS get to claim to be the rampant defenders against sexist language?

And why why why why is press time being spent on this ridiculous none issue? *le sigh*
