This is a storm the size of a medium-sized state, like Texas.

I believe Texas is technically a large state. Unless you meant "Nation state".

Texas is barely the size of Alberta.

Texas is medium-sized.

Those 8 people in Alberta are awfully lonely though, with all that distance between them.

Texas is a large state. It would be a medium-sized province.

It's large, *for a state*.

It's still medium-sized.

Europe is full of tiny countries.

But yes.

Actually I think Texas is bigger than any country in Europe except Russia.

Ukraine and France are within a few percent. Turkey is significantly bigger. Spain is smaller but close, as is Sweden.

No...? 450 000 square kilometers compared to the 700 000 square kilometers of Texas.

2/3.

It's larger than any other US State except Alaska. It's more than three times the average size of the rest of the States.

I call that "close".

Err, so Turkey (784k square km) is "significantly bigger" than Texas (696k square km) but Ukraine (604k square km) is "within a few percent"? Interesting...

I wasn't including Turkey as part of Europe, but if you do there are two European countries bigger than Texas.

You counted *Russia*.

Last I checked, that's northern Asia. Turkey's a prospective EU member, and it's a lot closer.

(And, France is within 3%. And it was the original item from that sentence before I saw the size of the Ukraine)

I know Turkey's a prospective EU member, but I just went by the Europe map that Wikipedia shows on a lot of the European countries' pages. On that map, western Russia is part of Europe (which corresponds with what I thought was the conventional wisdom), but Turkey isn't.

So Asia starts at the Norwegian border by Murmansk? Try again. (And should I even mention East PrussiaKaliningrad?)

40% of the land area of Europe is in Russia. Roughly 3,960,000 km² or 5.6 times Texas.
