In Toronto, having a Liberal sign in your yard may result in your brake lines being cut.

James Nicoll has a poll about this. The results, so far, are unsurprising.

PS: For the Americans joining us, that's The Toronto Star - a real newspaper, the largest paper in the largest city in Canada - not Star Magazine, an American tabloid. Because this HAS come up as a matter of questioning credibility, before.

As dissatisfying as it is, institutionalized revenge cheapens the idea of justice. And each of us individually.

Revenge is basically poetic punishment. If someone takes another's eye, that someone's eye gets taken away. Etc.

You are proposing that if someone were to take another's voting rights, their voting rights be taken away. That's revenge.

Non-revenge would be standard punishment -- fine, community service, jail.

I agree with Duncan. Somebody who has attempted to strip the right to vote has clearly demonstrated that they have no faith in the democratic system, and as a result should be barred from participating in it as their involvement has already been proven to be unhealthy FOR THE SYSTEM.

It's akin to saying that somebody who has poisoned another's food should not be permitted to handle food in the future. It has less to do with revenge and more to do with minimizing their ability to cause future harm.

I don't think this happens often enough to make a special case for it, and I think people are reading far too much into the motives of an unknown entity.

Unrelated, but saw this and thought of you(r blog).

Palin states that there's a "special hell" for women who don't support her.

This was by far the best part of that article:

"Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden.""

The Toronto Star is also distributed nationally, though in a slightly different format. There's a GTA edition and a national edition. Could be more than that, but I doubt it.

Just a cusious tidbit if you hadn't known. :)

Also? Cutting brakes is pretty sick. :(
