This is the first time I can think of that Canadian elections have had more thuggery than American ones. Sure, Palin supporters are calling for the death of "the nigger", threatening the media, and demanding that black cameramen "sit down, boy!", and American churches are burning Obama in effigy, but the only *murder* attempts are by Conservative Party Of Canada supporters against the supporters of a female rival.

A part of me wonders whether it's actually Liberal supporters hoping to garner support and sympathy (not the victims themselves; other, crazier supporters). But a bigger part of me realizes there are more and crazier crazies on the fringes of the Conservative party, Christian Heritage Party, etc.

Goondas in Canada! It feels like 1971 India! So exciting! I wish someone would strong-arm *me* at the polls. (I'll strong-arm *your* poll)

You guys are making a good start. But down here we've had to break up a credible assassination plot against Obama, a hostage-taking event against Clinton, and the gassing of a room full of Muslim children tied to anti-Islamic propaganda distributed by McCain supporters. All this plus the normal drumbeat of wide-scale disenfranchisement and intimidation of students, minorities, and immigrants.

I know you didn't ask for suggestions, but my recommendation is that you make your campaign season much much longer. If your hooligans had a year to plan, they might eventually grow to be a serious threat to the hegemony of grass-roots American asshattery.
