Blizzard's posting new snippets of DIII background and fiction, all written from the IC perspective of a historian and scholar.

His name is Abd al-Hazir.

Arabic is my sixth language, meaning I speak only about two dozen words of it and can mostly get by with "Hello" "Do you speak English?" and "there is no God but God and Mohammed is his Prophet"[1], but my best guess on translating that is "Servant of convenience".

Which is an AWESOME name for a character mouthpiece. It's like naming your authorial insertion character Baron von Schadenfreude.

[1]: A surprisingly useful phrase! And certainly very common, and thus very easy to learn.

The way I figure it, I get to count any language I can piece together out of writing and identify sentence structure parts and converse extremely basically in.

Meaning, English, French, and German count. My vocabulary is limited in German, but I can work things out.
Spanish, Portugese, and Arabic, I shouldn't really count, but since I can read them and puzzle out meanings to simple phrases, I'm willing to exaggerate in the name of being funny.

(My real problem is that while my French is better, I *use* my German more often. Which means that I have it as my default "second language" filter in my brain, which means that I tend to hear Francophones and try to respond in German. This is extremely unhelpful, especially since I work in Quebec two days a week.)
