I saw that earlier today.

It's in the same category with jokes about using bricks to rape women.

That's not meant to be a slur to you, by the by, but it shows how strongly I feel about crap like this and that.

I wonder who told him that making fun of someone is the same as threatening their life.

In all fairness, if all he was going for was to create a knee jerk reaction in the left, then by Jove, he's done it! But if he was trying to create a similar image to the ones the left have been posting about palin, he failed miserably a) because what he posted was in no way the same and b) because it wasn't funny. Some of hte small print at the bottom was a little funny, but whaetver.

Now, in all fairness, after my knee jerk reaction was over, I have said many times in the past that I won't fault a joke and I don't. I don't think he meant it seriously, so that's fine, but it's still not very clever.

Any picture, produced during a discussion of United States politics, produced by a person of Caucasian ethnicity, depicting both a person with African heritage and a noose, is under no circumstances considerable to be a joke. It is, under every possibly foreseeable circumstance, a depiction of a crime or an advocation of a crime.

Yeah, that was pretty much my opinion of the whole thing. I get that it's meant to satirize the left's attacks on Palin, but they didn't do it right. It makes me want to say "Satire: Ur Doin It Rong." An equivalent anti-Obama joke (to the anti-Palin joke that upset him, which I also found to be sexist and offensive, even though I'm a liberal Obama-supporter) would be perhaps something skewering his race, or saying his daughters were going to end up as crack hos or something like that. That would be the equivalent - something that hits at a stereotype, and his family, the way the "retarded vagina" joke hit at Palin.

Not something inciting violence against him and discussing lynchings. That's just disgusting. And you always have to consider where an image like that is going to go. Stripped of it's context, it's just offensive and depressing.

Apparently it's a response to some of the anti-Palin stuff that's doing the rounds. And he thinks that's a valid excuse.

But it's also not the same as threatening to lynch someone.

He fails.

This is one of my biggest fears right now - Obama will get elected, then assassinated.

McCain will be extremely apologetic after the fact, I'm sure, but his campaign is currently the one handing out the pitchforks and torches.

McCain, talking tough, told workers at his campaign headquarters the other day that he would "whip [Obama's] you-know-what in the debate." That remark caused at least one Republican strategist to wince, because it might lead some to expect more than the candidate could deliver.

Ha ha, see, it caused him to wince not because he was talking about whipping a black man to his supporters who are sounding more and more like a lynch mob, it caused him to wince because he (rightly) doesn't think McCain can do it. Oh boy, what a silly world we live in. Wheeee!

Hell, I had to think thru the implications, and I go to training every 6 months on this crap. It's a shame when (either) side gets nit picky like this. (I believe McCain has taken one - or more - of Obama quotes out of context)

I just wonder why this race has to be about making the other guy lose, and not about why this guy should win. Y'know? I guess we did this 4 years ago, tho. And 4 years before that....

On the other hand, since you should expect to be in the public spotlight at this point, oh, 99% of the time, maybe taking a few extra moments to think about your words before you memorialize them in the papers and internet should not be a tough thing to do.

It's about as representative for the right as you and your rabid anti-Christian friends are of the left.

It is, however, entirely typical of the only supporters the Republicans have left - or have you missed that Palin's been deliberately riling up the racist fringe for the last couple of weeks?

Calling me left: Your right/left meters need to be recalibrated, against a country other than the USA. I'm left of the Democrats, but that's because the Democrats would be an extremely *right-wing* party anywhere but the USA. The *Conservative Party Of Canada* is left of the Democrats.

Calling me anti-Christian: Pay attention. I'm no more anti-Christian than I am anti-Muslim or anti-Hindu or anti-Astrology - I'm anti-*stupid*, and anti-*crazy*, and I'm not singling out Christians for being crazy and stupid and more than any of the other crazy and stupid groups.

There just happen to be *more* stupid people doing more crazy things in the name of their invisible friend, locally, when their invisible friend is JEEBUS.

Calling me rabid: Stylistically, sure. I'll give you that one.

Calling me not respresentative: True! And it's too bad, because if more people would think a little more often, the world would be a better place.

Most Republicans are simply conservatives who think that society is moving in the wrong direction with all this feminism and gaiety and short skirts and people who won't learn English. Or they simply don't want their money to be redistributed to strangers who haven't worked for it. Racism is entirely optional.

As for you, I simply register that you are extraordinarily active at hanging out to dry Christians or Conservatives who are making the rest of us Christians and Conservatives cringe - the outer fringe of the lunatic fringe, as it were. I honestly don't know if you have a daily routine reading through various North American publications looking for this stuff or whether you are part of some network where these circulate as memes, but you're unique in this regard among the people I read regularly. Perhaps it is just a hobby and does not reflect your personal views. Or perhaps you were bitten by a radioactive atheist in high school. How would I know? I just tell it as I see it.
