'An Official GOP Site' ... well.. sort of. In the same way that the Podunk, Iowa Democratic Party site is an 'Official Democratic Party' site.

It was posted by the local party, and was taken down because of pressure from, amongst others, senior Republicans.

Noone ever said that some of the fanatical insane morons don't actually work for the party.. on both sides.

I, sadly, know several of them. Living in VA is interesting, alot of people I know that work for the Dem party have in previous years wavered between foaming at the mouth desperation and deep ennui... but in the last year or so the republicans have gotten a little crazy at the thought that VA might be swingable.

What you apparently don't understand is my point, so I'll sum up.

Not everything that is posted on a local Party Office website is the officially supported policy and vetted opinion of the RNC. This was an especially good example of that since other republicans made the lunatic who posted it take it down.

Officially sanctioned site.
Dumbass local party chair.
Stupid Local Decision.
Forced to take it down by the state party with multiple officials (including the governator) calling it offensive (if my reading of your link was correct).

If that's the case that seems to support the 'crazy individual' theory not 'entire racist party' theory.

Here's the thing though. There are *just* as many hateful ageist or sexist images and notes made by the Dems/Liberals targetting McCain/Palin as there are racist ones made against Obama.

Is this one, as was the last one, innately offensive? Yep.
Is the one featuring Palin with a gun to her head offensive too? Yep.

As I said in my response to the other post, *each* party has a vibrant lunatic fanatic subset, neither one is more right or more rational than the other.

Continuously posting these images, and pretending that there aren't also hateful liberals is exactly the kind of thing that you so often call people/institutions on, posting a micro-picture of a situation and calling that situation the whole truth.

It is, literally, the very behavior that you most often call out and mock, and for partaking in that kind of stupidity you've made yourself worthy of mockery.

(And mind you this is coming from an African American of mixed race, who's been on the receiving end of racism more often than he'd like to recall who finds the image incredibly offensive. Who is incredibly worried about what might happen if Obama wins and the level of venom in the campaign hasn't been defused, and what it will mean for America if someone incredibly stupid does something stupid. But it's absolutely ludicrous to pretend that only Republicans hate).

Sanctimony, Hypocrisy and the Demonization of those who disagree with you are not just Republican values... as you've amply demonstrated recently.

Please feel free to name specific cases if you wish; from my extern's point of view, however, I see a great disparity between the viciousness exercised by each of your two parties in this election and the willingness of those parties' leaders to mitigate it.

The Republicans have the no-contest win in unreconstructed racism, while the Democrats lean to aversive racism. Neither side has the advantage on sexism; they just use different flavors of it. The Democrats have a slight policy advantage in not explicitly desiring to codify sexism in law. They just don't do anything to stop it. This also used to be the case with homophobia, but we are seeing some progress there.

There were several examples in the comments from the previous post (which I had no previously seen). I think the notable one for is the one with a rifle held to Palin's head, the one showing a fist knocking her out, and the 'what's the difference between your mouth and a vagina'.... all of which are differently hateful, and at least the latter is quite sexist.

There really isn't all that much difference between the Republican and Democratic parties at the moment. Their stances have switched slowly from where they had been historically, but where they are primarily now is 'We stand for the issues that you stand against'. It's really much more about power than it is about anything else regardless of the advertising.

The first three are fairly significantly bad, the fourth one is an interesting case. What's worse... one person spewing something hateful... or someone abusing his position to lean on those he's supposed to be teaching?

I'm tempted to say there's a difference between using historical, lethal, formerly institutionalized kinds of hate in your hate speech (like lynching) and using jokes about a vagina.

They're both bad, no doubt about it, but I don't think they're equivalent.

The equivalent for Palin would be if people advocated raping her or said her husband should beat some sense into her...because those are egregious, historically sanctioned forms of violence directed against women.

I'll have to parse this out a bit more though.
