I'm confused. Is homosexuality in SF something that we still feel is shocking and/or notable?
It's like describing Star Trek and saying "OMG, they have a black woman on the bridge! And she's an officer!"
Or are the lesbians supposed to be bonus features here, like leather bucket seats?

The author felt it important to stick an 18+ label on it and warn people about explicit sex. Without having read it myself yet, why argue with him?

I believe KS Augustin is a her, and yes, the 18+ is applicable. I read the novel over the weekend after James posted the link. Good read if you don't think you'd be bothered by the explicit bits.
