I'm confused. Is homosexuality in SF something that we still feel is shocking and/or notable?

It's like describing Star Trek and saying "OMG, they have a black woman on the bridge! And she's an officer!"

Or are the lesbians supposed to be bonus features here, like leather bucket seats?

I believe KS Augustin is a her, and yes, the 18+ is applicable. I read the novel over the weekend after James posted the link. Good read if you don't think you'd be bothered by the explicit bits.
