Stupid game designers. Making me make decisions where one side is not obviously "right", and where the results of the decision will have actual real effects on the rest of the game.

What, do they think they're making something where I'm actually supposed to not get *everything* I want handed to me on a silver platter? Sheesh!

(The decision: Come to the aid of 4 beleagured mercenaries who are friends of mine and who have saved my life repeatedly, or come to the aid of a bunch of civilians. The deciding factor: The lead merc voice actor has a *really annoying* voice[1])

PS: Far Cry 2 should have been titled "Grand Theft Auto: Africa". But that's okay, because GTA games are pretty good, and FC2 doesn't have an endless series of insipid minigames. My only complaint is the lack of an Oblivion-style quick-travel to already explored areas - and the fact that the guards at the guard posts keep fucking respawning every time I leave the area. I expect both of these will be fixed with the 1.1 patch.

PPS: Black PCs not only an option, but a majority *and* a default. This is what you get when you have Canadians make games about Africa. I'm just sayin'.

[1]: If I hadn't picked the Kosovar PC, I would have a different Lead Merc. It's my own fault, really.

Wha? Black people in Africa? NO WAI!! ;)

In WoW, within 2 weeks I realised that I hadn't seen ANY human who was not white. For my second character, I made a human (first was night elf) and made her skin as dark as possible. Well, she wasn't very dark. But I gave her nice black hair and actually she was very sexy! She has more sex appeal than my night elf.

I'm trying to find the pics I uploaded. I'll post them when I get home from work, if you care.

Found it.

She was level 23 I think when I last had her, but you can see how she's not really all that dark.

Well, of course. "People" in fantasy always means "white people", didn't you know?

I think that falls under "Epic Pooh" syndrome.

I know, it bugs me. :/ The only time you come across "black" are dark elves and drow (often interchangable terms, but not always).

My favourite dark elves are Raymond Feist's. They're indistinguishable from the "light" elves, entirely - no skin tone, no dress code, nothing. But the elves can tell the difference, on sight.

I still need to get back into his stuff. I've read the Magician: Apprentice quadrology a couple times and loved every page of it, but never really realized that he managed to write other stuff beyond those four until recently.

...the guards at the guard posts keep fucking respawning...

You'd think they'd respawn in greater numbers, since, like, someone managed to kill everyone the last time.

Likely with heavier weapons and eventually armoured vehicles. Because that would be fun and challenging. And because you take their stuff when they die, it would become a kind of ever-escalting arms race until you're eventually lobbing nukes at the guard post from orbit while their orbital anti-missile platform tries to stop you.

Because even though you're battling from orbital platforms, there'd still be the two guys down there with no viable means of defending themselves, and killing them is the whole point. Arms races are cool like that.

One of the premises of FC2 is that the stuff you get from dead people is crap. So killing people and taking their stuff? Also crap.

I haven't played either of the FC games, but I played Deus Ex for the first time recently and really loved how well the designers made elements of the story, dialogue, and even rewards hinge on choices you make throughout the course of the game. I ended up playing through it several times and made different choices to see what I had missed the first time.

If only my PC wasn't a dying junker :(

Although I have Fable 2, and marrying hookers just to get bonus points when I sacrifice a spouse, rather than any old hooker, makes me laugh endlessly.

Also, making children follow me to an assassination, and watching their reactions when I lightning the skin off of somebody's body.
