Does America have separate abortion clinics that are physically separated from other health care institutions? I keep hearing about people attacking abortion clinics over there, but that wouldn't work here since abortions are performed along with medical procedures and largely by the same people.
So it is assumed that unless you move the abortions out to a separate place, anti-abortionists will come and blow up the whole place, sending babies and midwives to kingdom come and gun down oncologists? They don't do that here, but then again we don't explicitly breed for mindless violence.
Therefore, performing abortions results in your facility entrances being mobbed with *the most violent and stupid of the violent and stupid people*.
It's a bad insurance risk, even *if* they break with their standard practices and *don't* stalk, harrass, assault, rape, or murder any of your patients or employees.
It just seems to me a disastrously bad strategy to move abortions to a place where patients and doctors can be killed at leisure, instead of hiding them among the civilians. That's what one does here, and it is rare to see anything more disturbing than shaggy priests with synthetic crucified fetuses around the hospital entrances.
But I suppose each country should have the freedom to organize things in an inferior manner if their culture demands it. Lives are cheaper in the States, that's for sure.

It's a GREAT strategy *if you're the other civilians*
I think the assumption here is that American anti-abortion protesters are as polite about it as Norwegian anti-abortion protesters, and will not attack or hassle if there's "innocents" about.
Well, you have to understand... the violently anti-abortion types seem to use the logic of "all life is sacred, except abortion doctors, and anyone who walks into the clinic at the wrong time".
Of course, I have yet to see one of these anti-abortion crowds picketing anywhere (I suppose that comes from living in the Deep South), because I would love to go all Bill Hicks on them.
(Note for the sarcasm impaired: that doesn't imply that Christians aren't horrified by it, just that Palin and her witchhunting cohort of lunatics are the sort of people who would use an identification of "christian" or not as being more important than the identification of "was it a religiously/politically inspired act involving murder or the threat of it to influence another's actions" or not. I would also note that while these people think they are acting as Jesus would want them to, that this is not a “Jesus” that most Christians would recognise. Right. (Hopefully) redundant statement of obvious over, back to well deserved WTF?!?!)

Antiabortion protestors are violent and stupid, for antiabortion people.
Performing abortions attracts antiabortion protestors.
