Because, you see, I read this story, and my first reaction was to say good for her! This was a failure of the police and her reaction was damn near perfect.

And my second reaction was to imagine a sing-song voice saying "Rape me once, shame on me...."

That's easy. Man is an abbreviation for human. Woman is a subset of man, indicating that this human has a womb. We no longer use the terms like this, but that's what they originally meant.

So calling oneself a womyn is to no longer be a member of the human race. Which, I'm fairly certain, is exactly opposite the intent.
