Not ONE PERSON is online wanting to kill zombie nazis with me.

As in, *on the internet*.

The only internet-play enabled server is already full, not fighting zombies, and locked to the current users only.

I really must check to see if Activision has stupidly segregated PC/XB/PS gamers from playing against each other. That would really be depressing.

It probably is segregated since xbox users have to pay for their gold membership in order to play online.

This sort of fuckery is exactly why I don't see myself moving off the PC anytime soon.

...well, maybe a round of Katamari Damacy here and there.

Yes. It's a giant pain in the ass. Sure the 360 has downloadable content in theory. But most of it you have to buy with some nonsense called points which of course you buy. It's pretty ridiculous. (And yes that's on top of the gold membership for xbox live.)

Console owners put up with stuff I can't imagine. It's one thing to pay a monthly fee for games that are under constant development and where the servers are all maintained by the company- I don't begrudge Blizzard my WoW subscription money. But charging extra for content that is already on the goddamn disc is beyond any horizon of excusable.

They don't charge you extra for stuff on the disk. They cahrge you extra for *extra stuff that wasn't in the game*.

Rock Band 2 has 200 songs in it. And then you can download 300 more, with new song packs coming every week.

It's a little different.

I'm thinking specifically of Beautiful Katamari, where half the levels- levels which shipped on the disc- cost extra.

Paying extra to activate cheat codes is also horrible, especially in the Godfather game for (IIRC) 360, which has a money cheat that costs real money to use.

It's extra stuff on their server. Like for rockband you can buy more songs to play via the point system. But it's still a pain. (And no I don't use their point system or have a gold membership.)

I play WoW as well. But I'm waiting to pick up Wrath until next week. Are the servers still all hiccupy? (I have a 70 Tauren prot warrior on the carebear server Ghostlands.)

Not all DLC actually is downloaded; I've given examples elsewhere in this thread.

Dunno about other servers, but mine's pretty low-pop and it's okay.

I haven't had any hiccups (On either Elune or Thorium Brotherhood) all day, and haven't been suffering lag.

On the other hand, I took a break and now I'm sitting at position 420 in the queue on Elune, so...

Or they can take the whole game from you if you act surly on the forums. But they promised they won't, and you know we can trust EA.

Ever since Quake 3, where PC players just effortlessly butchered Dreamcast players, mixing console and PC players together has been kind of disregarded as a concept. I could totally see 360/PS3 players playing together.

This is co-op! We're joining together to kill the Nazis!

How can that possibly be wrong?

I think Left 4 Dead would work well for the same reason.

Which system are you on?

But I don't want to buy Left 4 Dead right now and I don't want to install the demo - demos are untrustworthy in terms of stability and uninstalling again when you're done.

I want to find some other people to play the game I just bought with me. Because it is awesome, and would be more awesome with more people.

Actually, the demo's pretty stable and solid- it IS Valve we're talking about. I wasn't saying "Go buy L4D", just saying that cross-platform would likely work well for coop.

I'd love to kill Zombies online with you. Of course, I'm lacking a desktop PC with the jam to run any sort of game and the game itself, which is pretty hefty barrier to entry.

Sorry.

I patched the game to 1.0.1 and now I can see about 50 servers. Which is great! I can't join any of them! Most of them are password protected, and the rest don't work!

Don't you just *love* technology? I know I do!

I would come shoot the shit outta zombie Nazis with you, but all my Funtime Pennies(tm) are earmarked for Left 4 Dead.

I'm awaiting news on a potential job, however, and if some Good News is in the pipe for me, I will bring the grenades if you point me at the Nazis.

I have at least one friend who should be playing this, though -- may I pass along your ingame name to him? He's a far better shot than I am, anyhow, and I promise he won't start yelling SHITCOCK SHITCOCK SHITCOCK at you. ;)

Absolutely!

Honestly, last night I was trying to get online with complete strangers to give this a shot with a bit of a support crew. And discovered that I can't, and contacted Activision support because Something Has Gone Horribly Wrong With The Plan.

Call Of Duty 5. There's a "bonus" level where you and up to 4 other people are in a house surrounded by a horde of zombie Nazis who attack in waves. The more kills you get, the more money you have to buy better weapons, more ammo, retreat further into the house, and repair the damage they did to your barricades.

It is very neat, singleplayer, and it strikes me as a really terribly fun multiplayer game. I just can't get it to *work* multiplayer, even late last night when there were finally people online to play with.

Off topic: PC gamers are the master race. It's true and all of you know it is so don't bother supporting those lesser, muddy races of console fandom.

Except Nintendo. Nintendo will always be amazing and righteous.

On topic: I need money to buy it. Someone feeling charitable?

I used to agree with you, until I couldn't afford to keep upgrading my pc. Plus Dead Rising (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_rising) only came out on Xbox, so I was pretty much forced to get one. Who doesn't love hitting zombies with a guitar?

My theory: If you can afford a PS3, you can afford a PC that will crush it performancewise *and* do other things as well.

The only way consoles are cheaper than PCs is if you concentrate on obsolete consoles.

Who doesn't love hitting zombies with a guitar?

People who got badly frustrated when they realised that all the time they'd spent sandboxing in the apparently-sandbox world preventing them from finishing the game, so now they had to start over from scratch?

(My killer app for the 360 is Rock Band 2. That's the game that *will* cause me to buy a 360, unless I buy the 360 to play Rock Band 3 instead. As long as I've got a continuous series of good PC games, though, I'm going to stick it out and wait for 360 prices to come down to a more sensible level.)

What Weaselking said. Using sites like newegg will allow you to make a pretty decent gaming pc without a horrendous price tag. It would be nice to have cross-platform games that would allow PC, Xbox and PS owners to play together, but I don't know if that's even doable OR if all it would take is a little finagling with servers and such.

Right now all I really use my 360 for is to play Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Ace Combat 6. I want another Front Mission game to come out.

Also, Left 4 Dead is the shit. I don't know when it comes out on console but the demo is available on Steam and it'll be available on Steam on the 18th. Anyone that needs a zombie fix should gogogo

I haven't even played Fallout 3 yet. I've been spending my time either on LJ or playing Puzzle Quest on the DS (yes, really). Mind you, I didn't think Fallout 3 will run on my computer. The bf said that if I can run Oblivion (I can, on low settings for visual) Fallout 3 should be fine. So I may have to give it a shot.

My video card is 128 MB short of playing Fallout 3. Otherwise I'd be off exploring DC.
