There is a news article I have already seen twice.

I do not wish to see it again, because it is stupid. Publicity stunts from bad writers writing for misogynist companies aiming their product at foul-smelling aging troglodytes? Are not news. Stop it.

People who repost it are going on The List.

(People on The List get petty revenge. And oh yes, there WILL be petty revenge.)

My guess is the charity BPAL line of Neil Gaiman-inspired perfume to raise money for the legal defense of the guy who was arrested because his manga collection struck the authorities like child pornography. Only that's an awesome writer writing for misogynistic companies aiming their product at foul-smelling aging troglodytes.

When you do, you'll find the story that everyone else to be suspecting (which is probably more likely) that Bruce Wayne is dead/retired no faking this time unlike the other four times he has retired in the past fifteen years.

Yah but, that doesn't make sense. Grant Morrison's an amazing writer.

He writes Batman. Batman sucks. He wrote JLA. JLA is the worst comic in the history of DC comics, which is itself the worst company in the history of comics.

He takes a paycheck from DC. That makes him an objectively bad person.

He's doing a publicity-stunt character-killing, again, just like the last several thousand. That makes him a no-talent hack.

Look, if Warren Ellis had written this, I'd still be calling him a bad writer and a bad person for taking rape-fanfic money. I'd just be doing it to his online face.

Have you ever heard *any* female talk about the culture at DC?

Hint: The rampant FATAL-playing misogyny of their entire catalogue doesn't come out of thin air at the printers.

DC are bad, but how can you rank them below Image? The lovechild of McFarlane and Liefeld still lives!

So Image is bad because you dislike TWO of the SEVEN founders? The company thats helped put out books like Bone, A Distant Soil, Strangers in Paradise, Age of Bronze, The Walking Dead, Leave it to Chance, G0dland, Astro City, Groo, Dynamo5 or I Kill Giants? Image comics probably has put out one of the most diverse lines of "mainstream" comics of anyone. With the possible exception of Dark Horse...

While DC has hardly been female friendly in many of its story lines, its still the company that puts out books by Gail Simone and has had titles like Andrenkyo's Manhunter or the John Rogers or Sturges runs of Blue Beetle. They're also the company that publishes the imprint lines for Vertigo and Wildstorm...

As for the culture at DC in general I try to get a broader view than just Val D'Orzio's blog...

Do you have any link to the tons of females talking about the culture at DC? I know about the sick shit that went down around the time of Identity Crisis, but would like to see if there's more than that prior to writing this off as you exaggerating for effect again.

Incidentally, "He takes a paycheck from DC. That makes him an objectively bad person." is one of the most eye-rollingly ridiculous things I've heard in awhile, not that I'm not used to you overdramatizing everything by now. Using that yardstick, everyone who, for instance, pumps gas for Exxon is objectively a bad person. In fact, if we're setting the bar so low that 100% of the people who have taken a paycheck from a comic company are objectively bad people, I'm not sure there are many good people in the world.

Also, for future reference, Warren Ellis has taken a paycheck from DC Comics several times, including for producing your role model Spider Jerusalem. Obviously Ellis is an objectively bad person deserving of scorn and ridicule. Somehow I don't think I'll be seeing it from you any time soon though.

I personally disagree. JLA has always sucked. It's a money grabbing attempt to get kids/fans to buy another comic with all their characters mashed together. GM at least spun some interesting story arcs from the train wreck.

I like his Batman run. But YMMV, as with all stories.

Personally, I think he's better off with his own stuff. DC and Marvel let him play with their shiny toys because of the reputation his name brings, and then the fans whine when he breaks them. Grant Morrison shakes off the antiquated continuities, it's his thing. He did it with Animal Man, and Doom Patrol, and no-one cared because they were small, mainly forgotten continuities. But when he does it with characters people care about, they take the opposite stance. I think he should focus on his own work, now that he's able to. It's always been better when he's free from constraints, rather than pushing to break them.

Warren Ellis would never do such a thing.

I can see your point, but not completely agree.

It's a really simple rule. If my grandmother knows something about Batman or Superman and you are a comic book writer who pitches an idea that violates those details, then you are either John Byrne or not even a _sensible_ writer. Grant Morrison should know that DC didn't have the willpower to keep Jim Gordon retired -- the only question is whether this will be retconned out by Morrison himself or if it's going to have to wait until the next multiverse reboot in eighteen months.

When I saw it was Grant Morrison that wrote it, all was forgiven. After the Invisibles, he could write a book about Indiana Jones sodomizing Solomon Kane with Gandalf's staff and I would forgive him.

Interesting. I loathed The Invisibles from the get-go (Look! We're cooler than you, acknowledge our greatness!). On the other hand, Batman in a non-angsty story can be very good indeed (yes, personal opinion, but then my personal opinion is always right) and Dini's take on the character is excellent (Morrison... not so much).
