I remember a Finnish folktale about one sister being sent out into the freezing winter with no coat to look for spring flowers by an evil stepmother. She encounters the twelve months in the woods, who take pity on her hand give March dominion long enough for snowdrops to bloom, so she can gather a basket of them and be let back into the house by the evil stepmother.
The stepmother is furious that she was so stupid as to only ask for flowers, when she had the ear of all twelve months at once. So she sends the favorite sister out (with a nice warm coat) to demand strawberries and plums and apples and blackberries and etc. - the wealth of all the months at once.
Naturally they're enraged by her greed and let January freeze her to death.
That is even more lovely, as they're not photoshopped. :) I mean I could understand some blending and putting half&half, but the obvious colour altering in the top images makes them rather surreal for me.
