It's also on a frequency not used by any of the migratory whales, and not at times when the other migratory species are in the area,- from what I'm reading here.
Sorry, couldn't find anything more up-to-date last night. Have asked some crypo researchers to look into it, however. So there may be an update in the near future.
I'm kinda with Ursula on the deaf explaination. I used to see some really *awkard* vocalizations from cats who had been deaf from birth when I was volunteering at the shelter -- I mean the purring thing is sorta automatic, but their other vocalizations were either pitched differently than "hearing" cats or the way they'd form sounds didn't sound like a typical meow. One vocalized like a Siamese trying to imitate a piqued screacher monkey, and the other chirped.

You take out these assumnptions and its a whale sound from odd places that might correspond with multiple migratory patterns.
