No, seriously, I've never seen anything even remotely similar to what gets trotted out at shows being actually worn by anybody anywhere, or sold at any stores.
For the coture houses, it's to keep their names buzzing so that they can sell perfume and contract out for a few dozen wedding gowns a year. I suspect that the catwalk designs themselves are worn at (or inspired by) the sorts of parties that we aren't invited to.
For Gareth Pugh, who the hell knows? According to his wiki, as recently as a year ago he had yet to sell a single dress, and it's not hard to guess why.
The stuff at fashion shows isn't meant to be worn (unless you're both filthy rich and wildly adventurous). It's meant to show the world what the design houses can do.
Themes from the fashion shows get replicated for mass market designs and reappear in High Street shops first followed by your local Wal-Mart later.
For example, a couple of the big trends for this winter season are lace and tartan. Ergo, tartan skirts and lace leggings.
