I sprained my tongue in college, kissing (twice -- didn't learn my lesson the first time (but I did eventually learn how to protect against that while still enjoying the enthusiasm that leads to the risk)), but never any ear damage or ear pain.

I wonder whether the patient had a pre-existing injury or defect that increased the risk there.
